Why choose down?

Down offers the most advantages of all known filling materials. The insulating capacity is very high, down provides the most volume compared to its own weight and can absorb a lot of moisture quickly. A down duvet is therefore lighter and more comfortable than duvets with other filling materials. It is believed that lower overall weight generally improves sleep because it causes fewer interruptions to sleep. The lifespan is also generally much longer. A down duvet falls more smoothly around you, so it fits better and you experience drafts less quickly. Furthermore, down is a natural material.

Difference between goose down and duck down?

Goose down and duck down both have excellent ventilation properties. The main differences are in the size of the down and feathers. Goose down is generally larger than duck down and has a greater fill power. This allows you to achieve the same thermal insulation with a lower fill weight. In other words, a duvet filled with goose down can be lighter than a duck down duvet from the same warmth class. Goose down duvets also usually last longer than duvets filled with duck down. If you have sensitive airways, we have experience that it is better to choose a duvet filled with goose down.

Can you be allergic to down?

Hardly anyone is allergic to down. The most common allergy is 'house dust allergy' which is caused by the droppings of house dust mites. These animals live on human dander, down is not food for dust mites and the cover of our down duvets is so tightly woven that dust mites cannot get in. Our duvets all carry the NOMITE label to indicate that they are ideal for people with house dust allergies.

Is down animal friendly?

For the most part, down is a surplus from the food industry, no ducks and geese are kept and killed for the down. The down and feathers come from dead animals, we do not process down that comes from living animals by hand. Furthermore, more and more attention is being paid to the exact origin of the down and animal-friendly handling of the animals. All down and feathers that we use for our duvets and pillows are RDS (Responsible Down Standard) certified to ensure this.

Is a down duvet warm?

A down duvet is pleasantly warm with a low overall weight. It is important to choose the right heat class that suits your personal heating needs and the degree of insulation of your home. For example, if your current duvet is a synthetic duvet and you want to switch to a down duvet, a down duvet may be a bit warmer in the beginning, but after a few days you will get used to it and you will find it a much more pleasant warmth. experienced.

What heat classes are there?

Heat class 1, Winter-Plus, a real winter duvet, nice and thick and wonderfully warm, for the real cold and for a cold bedroom. This type of duvet is always cassette stitched with 2 cm high raised dividers between the cassettes to retain heat better. The cassettes also keep the filling well in place.

Warmth class 2, Winter-Warm, a slightly lighter filled winter duvet, also called all-year duvet. Very suitable for our climate and a nice and pleasantly warm duvet for use during a large part of the year. If you get warm quickly and lie together under one duvet, it may be better to choose heat class 3 because together you produce more heat than if you lie under it alone. These duvets are also cassette stitched and have 2 cm high raised dividers between the cassettes to better retain heat and also to keep the filling in place.

Heat class 3, Spring/Autumn, a slightly lighter duvet for spring/autumn or for a more modern house or apartment with good insulation or even underfloor heating in the bedroom. These duvets have 1 cm high raised dividers between the cassettes, which are also smaller so that the duvet does not get too warm. The cassettes keep the filling well in place. Duvets in this warmth class are also very pleasant as a double or twin duvet.

Heat class 4, Summer, a wonderfully light duvet stitched into smaller compartments without raised partitions between the compartments and with a very low fill weight and volume, ideal for use in the summer. Also suitable for use in a heated bedroom.

4-Seasons, a 4-season duvet consists of two duvets of a different warmth class, which can be connected with each other by means of buttons. We supply a standard 4-season duvet consisting of one duvet, heat class 3 and one duvet, heat class 4. Together they form a winter duvet.

All White Cloudz down duvets have button holes and are supplied with buttons to put together your own 4-season duvet. Of course, this is not necessary immediately, for example you can first buy a summer duvet and in the autumn you order a spring/autumn duvet.

Is down environmentally friendly?

Certainly, down is quite environmentally friendly. To make it suitable for use in duvets and pillows, all you have to do is wash and sort it. Naturally, this requires energy and water and responsible detergents are used. The amount of energy required is modest, although quite a lot of water is required, but this is purified and reused at and by the processing factories.

At the end of the life cycle of a down duvet, which can be 10 – 20 years after use, there are two options;

The product ends up as waste and can simply be processed and is also biodegradable due to its natural materials, down and cotton.

The product is collected and the down is cleaned and can be reused for duvets and any other applications such as insulation material. However, if it is reused in a duvet, the quality is lower than that of a duvet filled with new down. The cotton cover can also be reused.

Which size should I choose?

Choosing the right size is of course very important to sleep well. The size of your bed/mattress is usually the most important factor in addition to your preference for your own single or double duvet.

The standard length for a duvet is 200cm, but if you are 180cm or taller then a duvet of 220cm is much more comfortable. Even if your bed or mattress is longer than 200cm, we recommend choosing a duvet of 220cm.

Nowadays, beds of 220cm long are also offered, in which case we recommend a duvet of 240cm long. We can also supply these, but with the exception of the Aspen down duvet, these have a longer delivery time.
